Career Development Program
The CDP was
established in 2002 to meet the career development needs of the blind and
visually impaired in the greater Sacramento community. The program specializes
in all aspects of career development for job seekers, including vocational
assessment and exploration in order to determine a career goal, interviewing
techniques, resume writing, job search methods, teambuilding, time management,
professional protocol, and making employer contacts.
The CDP works with job seekers new to the job market, as well as those with
years of successful experience, who are now transitioning to work as a visually
impaired or blind employee.
Employers can draw from this pool of highly qualified job seekers to fill
open positions, or they can benefit from interns eager to learn on the job.
In addition, a variety of tax credits are available to employers who hire
from this talented pool of individuals.
Employers who hire from the CDP can also take advantage of our knowledge
of adaptive technology, reasonable accommodations, and access technology
integration.
The CDP has two main areas of focus:
1. To
prepare blind and visually impaired clients for every level of career
development, assisting in obtaining viable employment in conjunction
with State Department of Rehabilitation Counselors.

2. To
form partnerships with area employers that will facilitate this process,
