Join Us for the Briggs Award Event

Honoring the past, present and future of vision care in the Sacramento region. This event is named in honor of Sacramento’s first ophthalmologist, Dr. William Ellery Briggs. He provided some of the most advanced eye care of his day to railroad workers who suffered eye injuries while building the transcontinental railroad.

We will present the 2026 Briggs Award to Dr. Christian Serdahl. Dr. Serdahl has been in practice as an ophthalmologist for more than 30 years. In that time he has held numerous offices in the Sacramento medical community and has performed free cataract surgery on medical missions abroad. Each winter, Dr. Serdahl hosts a group of Society staff and clients for Blind Ski Day on the slopes at Achieve Tahoe.

All funds raised from this event will support the work of Society for the Blind’s Low Vision Clinic, the region’s only comprehensive, full-time clinic for people living with low vision. The Briggs Award Event will be an evening of fun and celebration as we focus on the future to ensure children, working age adults and seniors with vision loss have access to the eye care they need.
