Transitions and New Opportunities at the Low Vision Clinic
Changes are a part of life, a time of letting go and welcoming. This spring we bid farewell to Penny Riley after 20 years of service at Society for the Blind. Penny worked in our Low Vision Clinic and was instrumental in its growth and development. During the past five years Penny also assisted in our retail store.
Earlier this year Penny decided it was time to start a new chapter in her life that would include spending more time with her grandchildren. We are grateful for her contributions to Society and wish her the very best in retirement.
Our new Low Vision Clinic Director is Toni Boom. She is already a familiar face, as she is our Low Vision Rehabilitation Therapist. Toni joined our staff in
2015 bringing not only a specialty in low vision eye-care but also a background in business and banking. Toni has a B.A. in Economics and an M.S. in Occupational Therapy.
Our Clinic has seen nearly a doubling of our patient base these past two years, and the addition of a second office in Roseville, CA. We are excited to have Toni at the helm guiding our clinic operations and continuing to see patients to assist them in getting the most out of their remaining functional vision.
In addition to Toni, our Low Vision Clinic team includes Chelsea Grey, Optometric Associate, and LVC Doctors: Ron Cole, MD, Marvin Nakamoto, OD, Kristin White, OD and Monica Bayes-Rodriguez, OD.
